The fleet industry is changing rapidly, so it’s important to stay current by keeping up on new techniques and new technology, not to mention networking opportunities.
KPA announced the immediate availability of a bundled series of commercial motor vehicle (CMV) safety courses covering essential compliance topics.
Road and driver safety continues to be necessary; in 2017, over 4,400 crashes included large trucks and buses and resulted from preventable actions like wearing a seatbelt. KPA’s driver-focused safety training package is intended for any employee who needs to regularly or occasionally operate a commercial motor vehicle.
According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), 13% of traffic fatalities involved large trucks or buses, and 19% were a result of speeding. Although the number of CMV drivers and occupants wearing seatbelts is increasing, 38% of fatalities were individuals not wearing one. Additionally, 30% of the fatal crashes were in a work zone, and 6% involved distracted driving.

“The Coronavirus will test collective leadership skills like never before,” says fleet industry expert (and leadership expert) Mike Pitcher. We couldn’t agree more. Mike’s video today offers great suggestions for leading coolly and calmly in this challenging time.
The COVID-19 pandemic poses a new challenge to fleets, of course, but even more acutely with pool fleets. Don’t miss this story from Mark Boada on what fleet managers are doing to protect their drivers. On that note, you might also want to check out this free Coronavirus Resources Center from KPA.

Connected car data privacy is a major concern for around half of all drivers, LeasePlan, a global fleet management company, has found in its most recent mobility survey of consumers in the U.S. and 15 European countries.
The survey of 4,000 consumers found that:
• 53 percent are worried about who owns the data the vehicles collect;
• 52 percent are worried about personal data that can be accessed after they sell or return their vehicles when their lease expires; and
• 49 percent are worried about their data being shared with third parties.
In spite of those concerns, the survey also found that a large majority of drivers are willing to share their data anonymously if it’s used to reduce emissions, spending on fuel and maintenance and to improve vehicle performance.
“Tex Gunning, CEO of LeasePlan, said, ‘Vehicle data offers a great opportunity to make driving safer and more sustainable – but that data needs to be collected with driver awareness and consent. Drivers also need a simple opt-out solution – if they want to delete their personal data, they must be able to do that. ‘”
