Americans are planning to buy more online this holiday season, and most are considering the impact those deliveries will have on the planet, according to the results of a third-party consumer survey released today by Merchants Fleet.
“Consumers are increasingly aware of the environmental impact of package delivery, and they're actually willing to pay more for cleaner delivery alternatives," said Brendan P. Keegan, chairperson, CEO and president of Merchants Fleet. “This sends a clear message to retailers around the world that it's time to accelerate the transition to electric vehicles if you want to stay in the game."
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles issued a “Do Not Drive” warning for roughly 276,000 model year 2005 - 2010 Dodge Magnums, Chargers, and Challengers, as well as MY 2005-2010 Chrysler 300s.
The warning comes after two people died in separate crashes involving 2010 Dodge Chargers where the Takata driver’s side air bags exploded.
Additionally, NHTSA is aware of several other suspected inflator ruptures in vehicles from other automakers potentially due to exploding Takata air bags. NHTSA is urging ALL vehicle owners to immediately check to see if their vehicle has an open Takata air bag recall. If it does, owners need to contact their dealership to schedule a FREE repair as soon as possible and follow any warnings from the vehicle manufacturer. Dealerships will work with vehicle owners to arrange ways to get the vehicles in for the repair.
Gig-economy workers are 4 times as likely as other drivers to use smartphone apps regularly while driving, a new survey from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety shows.
“The explosion of smartphone features and services has not only created new forms of driver distraction, but also a new group of rideshare and delivery drivers whose jobs require them to interact with their phones while they’re on the road,” IIHS President David Harkey said.
One possible reason could be that they’re more tempted to conduct other business or find ways to entertain themselves while driving because their jobs force them to spend so much time behind the wheel. Parents are also nearly 50 percent more prone to routinely making video calls, checking weather reports and other types of smartphone-enabled distractions than drivers without children 18 or younger, the survey found.
