Parents have plenty to be concerned about when their teen learns to drive. The vehicle they are going to get into, needs to be considered. There are three reasons why they shouldn’t drive electric vehicles, at least not until they’ve gotten more driving experience.
While home charging systems aren’t an issue, not all places have them. Sometimes a teen driver will have to find a public charging station to charge the battery. The last thing you want is your teen waiting in a parking lot, hopefully not at night.
Since many EVs have rear-wheel drivetrains nowadays, it could pose a problem for teens. Driving one of these cars requires a little more skill than front-wheel drive.
Electric cars have instant torque, meaning that when you press the accelerator pedal, you instantly take off. Teens will love the speed, and they might get in trouble with it, whether it’s a ticket or an accident.
We are making a change to our bi-weekly fleet poll we host with FLD Remarketing.
Instead of asking the poll questions ourselves, going forward we will be turning to fleet professionals from all segments of the industry to ask a question of their choosing focused on topics like inflation and fuel prices, vehicle availability, supply chain issues, and electrification.
The question for our next poll comes from Peter Young, SVP of Ranger Design, one of the industry's leading upfitters. To see his question and to take the two-question poll, (which takes less than a minute and requires no signup or info) click on http://www.fldinc.com/poll and let your voice be heard.
