Salt Lake City police conducted a crosswalk safety enforcement after at least half a dozen people have been hit by cars — and a 31-year-old man lost his life this past week.
It didn't take long for officers to issue citations to several drivers for going well over the 35 mph speed limit. They reminded drivers to slow down and obey traffic laws.
"It's a full-time unit and part of their primary responsibility, they are doing traffic education and traffic enforcement," said Salt Lake police Sgt. Mark Wian. "We want to make sure community members, no matter how they're using the roadways or doing it, are doing it as responsible as they can."
Today’s AFLA President credits much of his success he has had to the people he’s met because of the organization, especially the people he’s met while volunteering.
How you drive an EV matters, and how your charge an EV matters - and drivers are key to getting EVs to work both operationally and economically.
As we produce more electric vehicles, how humans interact with them will bring unintended consequences. Humans have learned to live with high speed, traffic, loudness, and even gasoline smells since 1876. That’s almost 150 years of adjusting to noise, speed, and gas.
Here are some specific things humans will have to get used to when it comes to electric vehicles on our roads and why.
Noise: When you’re walking on the street, you rely on engine sounds to tell you when to proceed. That’s why the National Highway Safety Administration made it mandatory for EVs to have a warning sound.
Weight: Electric cars are super heavy due to the number of batteries needed to make them efficient. The extra pounds are dangerous to pedestrians, as well as those in the EVs.
In his video clip today, AFLA President Steve Bender says “I can’t imagine being as successful as I have without the help of AFLA, especially by volunteering my time at many different levels,” and I couldn’t agree more!
The time I’ve spent volunteering for both AFLA and NAFA have been critical for my industry knowledge and professional growth. Whether it’s AFLA, NAFA, NETS, NTEA or all of the above, volunteering is incredibly rewarding!
High-Risk Drivers
Chances are you have high-risk drivers in your fleet. It’s good to know that there are solutions out there to identify and mitigate that risk, as we learned when we spoke with SuperVision’s Adam Danielson.
Digital License Plates
We talked to Reviver’s Alex Dimitrijevic recently about his company’s digital license plates. The plates are incredibly cool, of course, but they’re also changing the game in many ways for registration renewals and fleet management.
