Two auto trade associations are forming a new working group to help prevent cyberattacks on the nation’s 230 million cars and trucks.
The group’s new effort comes as Congress has raised concerns about the security of cars after Wired magazine in July showed how a 2014 Jeep SUV could be commandeered by a hacker. The report prompted the first-ever recall for hacking worries by an automaker, covering 1.4 million vehicles.
The highest number of fleet driver traffic fatalities in six years last year demonstrates the urgent need for accident prevention programs that change driver behavior, said Wayne Smolda, CEO and founder of the CEI Group.
The CEI Group, Inc. can save vocational truck fleets millions of dollars a year by preventing and managing accidents. That’s the message the fleet driver management company is bringing to the American Transport Association’s Management Conference & Exhibition in Philadelphia, being held in the city’s Convention Center October 17-20.
“Fleets are under constant pressure to cut expenses and save money, and it’s often a surprise to them how much they can save with new approaches to fleet accidents,” said Luann Dunkerley, CEI regional sales manager. Ms. Dunkerley, who is also a member of the board of governors of the National Private Truck Council and on its safety committee, will be joined in Booth # 543 at the trade show by Chris Villella, CEI’s director of account management for special markets, and Paul Duffin, the company’s truck fleet relationship specialist.

TU-Automotive has just announced that IBM’s CTO of Analytic Solutions and former CTO of Smart Cities & Operations, Calvin Lawrence, will be presenting on the impact of the Smart City on the fleet industry at the Connected Fleets USA Conference & Exhibition (Atlanta, GA, November 16-17).
IBM’s addition to the Connected Fleets USA 2015 speaker line-up demonstrates just how the fleet industry is moving towards a highly tech orientated, connected segment and also how the industry is being influenced by tech developments from outside the fleet space, such as the smart city. At the event –you can expect to hear from IBM on just how the smart city is developing to bring about efficiency in transportation and what technologies are needed to progress these developments.
