In the coming world of automated vehicles, fleet managers will still have to deal with liability, as human errors are replaced with machine errors. The hope, though, is that automation will reduce the number of crashes.
Every fleet manager shares the goal of optimizing operations, and this week we’ve got some expert advice on how to do just that! CEI’s John Wolford offers tips on how to avoid repair disasters; and PARS’s John Ross talks about the benefits of vehicle transport services backed by dedicated customer service.
Let Us Interview You On-Camera
Our interview team will be at The Work Truck Show from March 1-4, and also at NAFA I&E in Austin from April 19-22, where we will be conducting on-camera interviews with fleet managers, and with vendors who know how to make fleet managers’ jobs easier. If you’d like to be interviewed, email me at [email protected] for details.

Uber announced today that it will monitor some of its drivers' behavior for things like excessive speeding or distracted driving. Starting with a trial in Houston, the program will use Uber drivers' own smartphones to provide data to the company.
The phone's sensors can detect phone use or other bad habits while driving.

A new year causes many to stop and reflect on the things they would like to improve upon in their life and develop resolutions focused on change. For a fleet manager, this kind of exercise can be just as valuable.
And, although we are a ways into the new year at this point, taking some time to consider your fleet and any changes or improvements you might be able to make can very possibly lead to increased efficiency and lower total cost of ownership, which in turn improves your sustainability.
In addition to considering the practical aspects of your fleet – fuel, maintenance, etc. – it is also helpful to take a longer, more strategic view of your operations to ensure you are maximizing the potential of your vehicles and equipment.
The nominations process for NAFA's 2016 Fleet Excellence Awards (FLEXYs) concluded in dramatic form on January 22, with a new, record-setting number of entries crossing the finish line. With over 133 individual nominations to deliberate over, the 2016 FLEXYs -- awarded during the opening night celebration of NAFA's Institute & Expo conference -- promises once again to raise the bar for what is being achieved in the fleet profession.
"We were astounded by both the number and the quality of submissions sent to us," said NAFA's Chief Executive Officer Phillip E. Russo, CAE. "With more than 133 individual entries for 2016, these nominations indicate that fleet professionals are succeeding with creative ways to provide cost-savings, increase safety, and foster sustainability in their organizations' fleets."
