General Motors President Mark Reuss said he said he sees the cost of a BEV and a comparable gas model will “reach parity a lot sooner than people think.”
The auto industry is planning to spend in excess of $100 billion over the next decade on the development of electrified vehicles, pure battery-electric models, in particular. Getting costs down to parity is clearly one of the auto industry’s mantras.
That’s one of the reasons so many automakers, even industry giants like Ford, Volkswagen and Toyota are opting to partner with traditional competitors to help spread development costs.

Automakers appear unlikely to sway the Trump administration from abandoning President Barack Obama’s signature climate policy to improve mileage standards to nearly 51 miles per gallon for 2025 car and light truck models.
“The automakers’ efforts are too little and too late to stop the Trump administration from eviscerating the Obama clean car standards,” Bill Becker, president of Becker Environmental Consulting said. “The Trump proposal, if adopted, will contribute to tens of thousands of premature deaths and millions of incidences of serious illnesses, undermine states’ compliance with the Clean Air Act, and impose serious impacts on businesses.”

More Americans are saying no to minivans, once considered synonymous with suburban family life.
Minivans have lost 35% of their market share over the last decade. SUVs now account for about 50% of U.S. vehicle sales, up from about 31% in 2009.
"Minivans have always had the stigma of the soccer mom image even though they’re incredibly practical," said Michelle Krebs, analyst at car-buying site Autotrader.
