The compromise bill fashioned by President Biden and Senate Republicans is diminished in size and faces an uncertain future, but the betting is that a bill will eventually emerge, and EVs will still benefit handsomely.
Key features outlined by the White House are a national network of 500,000 chargers built along highways, and in rural and disadvantaged communities; also, thousands of schools and transit buses will be electrified. Proposed spending on each of these proposals will be $7.5 billion. Other notable EV components of the bill are that a proposed Republican surcharge is gone, as is a plan for a gasoline tax increase to contribute to the funding of infrastructure.
Bob Preciasepe, president of the Center for Climate and Energy Solutions, quoted in The New York Times, commented, "We find ourselves a unique moment here where most American business and many states are looking toward a decarbonized future, but recognize that there's a big lift on the infrastructure side. This investment... will be a huge boost"

The cost to charge an electric car is influenced by many variables. Will you charge at home? Do you plan to use public charging stations? How often do you take road trips? Where do you live? What's the weather like? And on, and on, and on.
With that said, people can still get a basic idea of what electric car ownership may cost, and the best way to do so is by asking actual EV owners. A new study conducted by researchers from Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia explored trends related to young adults’ driving habits.
Their findings showed that when young people use their cell phones on the road, they’re more likely to adopt other impulsive, aggressive driving patterns.
“This study found that frequent cell phone use while driving was only one indicator of a more general pattern of risky driving practices associated with prior crashes in young drivers,” said researcher Elizabeth Walshe, Ph.D. “Assessment of personality traits, such as impulsivity and sensation seeking, may be helpful to identify drivers most at risk in order to provide more targeted interventions promoting safe driving.”
