Electrify America Increases Charger Security as Cable Thefts Continue

While EV infrastructure vandalism was not unheard of in the past, it was a rare occurrence and typically motivated by extreme anti-EV ideology. More recently, however, attacks have been motivated by thieves looking to profit from the metal contained in electric vehicle charging cables.

Anthony Lambkin, vice president of operations at Electrify America, says that in previous years, Electrify America might see one cable cut every few months. This sudden increase has significantly impacted operations and the lives of electric car owners. Electrify America is installing additional security cameras at charging locations to catch more thieves in the act.

Automakers Ask US Agency to Reconsider Emergency Braking Rule

The Alliance for Automotive Innovation asked the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to reconsider the rule issued in April requiring nearly all new cars and trucks by 2029 to have advanced automatic emergency braking systems.

The requirement adopted in April that all cars and trucks would be able to stop and avoid striking vehicles in front of them at up to 62 miles per hour is "practically impossible with available technology."

The group said NHTSA's stringent requirements at higher driving speeds will result in vehicles "automatically applying the brakes far in advance of what a typical driver and others on the road would expect" resulting in rear-end collisions.

Utah is Getting 20 ‘Hyper-Fast’ Electrify America EV Charging Stations

Electrify America and electric utility Rocky Mountain Power have rolled out the first of 20 DC fast charging stations in Utah.

Rocky Mountain Power, the only rate-regulated public utility providing electric service in Utah, will own the new charging stations. Each will have “hyper-fast” chargers capable of speeds up to 350 kW. The utility will set the pricing and Rocky Mountain Power utility customers get a discounted rate.

All 20 of Utah’s new DC fast charging stations will be on Electrify America’s coast-to-coast “locate a charger” map, which includes more than 950 stations and over 4,250 chargers in the US and Canada. Drivers will be able to access and pay for charging on Rocky Mountain Power’s chargers through the Electrify America mobile app.

Is an Outdated Fleet Tracking System Holding You Back?

In today's competitive market, service providers with fleets cannot afford to rely on a "good enough" fleet tracking system that only provides limited information about their personnel and equipment.

Modern video telematics systems offer a comprehensive suite of features and reporting capabilities that can provide businesses with a wealth of valuable data, helping them gain a competitive advantage and improve their operations.

Read the new Lytx whitepaper, Boost Your Competitive Advantage with Modern Telematics and Fleet Management, to learn how to get a more complete picture of your fleet operations and make informed decisions to stay ahead of the competition.
