CharIN Testival and Conference Provides Unique, Comprehensive EV Proving Ground

At the forefront of fostering industry-wide collaboration is CharIN, the leading international industry association promoting EV charging standards and interoperability, whose 2024 North American Testival and Conference gathered 415 participants in mid-June to test vehicles and equipment in real-life scenarios.

As part of a global event series presented by CharIN, the conference and Testival was hosted by Lincoln Electric in Cleveland, Ohio and was the largest held to date, with 22 vehicle platforms and 23 EVSEs working together to enhance performance and interoperability between vehicles and charging equipment.

Ford Pro Offering Free EV Chargers to California Businesses to Encourage Fleet Electrification

Ford Pro™, Ford Motor Company’s commercial division, introduces the Ford Pro Smart Charging Bundle to California, one of America’s larger commercial fleet markets.

Charging operations for electric vehicle fleets can be complex. The Ford Pro Smart Charging Bundle aims to help California businesses with electric vehicles in their fleet while improving operations and reducing upfront and ongoing EV charging costs. The bundle offers a complimentary Ford Pro Level 2 48-amp charger or a Level 2 80-amp charger for depot and workplace charging to businesses subscribed to Ford Pro Charging software.

“California is an EV pioneer, and new regulations aim to accelerate businesses’ electric transition,” said Ted Cannis, Ford Pro CEO. “We’re here to do the heavy lifting and help companies navigate the complexities of electrification, helping them be more productive and efficient as they add EVs to their fleet."

IIHS-HLDI: Crash Prevention Needle Hardly Moves for Vehicles with Partial Automation

New research from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and the Highway Loss Data Institute (IIHS-HLDI) finds that vehicles equipped with partial automation crash avoidance systems don’t really seem to do what they were designed to do.

Recent studies of BMW and Nissan vehicles support the contention that while certain fully automated crash avoidance components can be relied upon, partial automated systems need to be purposefully engaged by the driver. Quite simply, many drivers ignore these features and fail to turn them on before driving.

“With no clear evidence that partial automation is preventing crashes, users and regulators alike should not confuse it for a safety feature,” said Jessica Cicchino, Senior Vice President for Research at IIHS.
