NAFA Fleet Management Association is presenting its first-ever "Mastering International Fleet Management" seminar to help fleet managers get a better understanding of the challenges faced with managing a global fleet. Scheduled for November 1-3, 2011, at the Jupiter Beach Resort & Spa in Jupiter, FL, the seminar will offer an intense three-day look at the complexities of running a multi-national fleet. Fleet managers encounter unique situations and face new problems in running a fleet in multiple countries. Registration is limited due to the seminar's hands-on case study participation.
Compressed natural gas burns cleaner than gasoline or ethanol, resulting in lower greenhouse-gas emissions, but it does not provide a fuel economy boost over gasoline. Pike Research reports annual global sales of CNG-propelled vehicles will jump 68 percent to about 3.2 million vehicles in 2016 from about 1.9 million last year. U.S. annual CNG sales are estimated to almost quadruple to 33,000 vehicles in 2016 from about 8,400 in 2012. As of Sept. 1, there were 901 CNG stations and 45 liquefied natural gas (LNG) stations in the U.S., compared to about 2,600 propane stations. The Honda Civic CG, named the greenest vehicle sold in the U.S., is the only production CNG-powered car in the country.
More than 2 million midsize sedans have been sold in the U.S. so far this year. In comparing comparably equipped 2012 models Toyota Camry, Volkswagen Passat, Hyundai Sonata, and Ford Fusion sedans, the redesigned Camry was found to be one of the best bargains in the family sedan category. Fuel costs for its 25/35 mpg city/highway and 28 mpg combined were the least of any family sedan in the evaluation. The 2012 Passat placed among the top five most affordable family sedans in the U.S. while the Sonata was the most affordable family sedan. The 2012 Fusion's feature pricing and mediocre gas mileage make it the most expensive sedan tested.
The FBI says auto shoppers are losing $1,000 every hour to scammers who've set up fraudulent websites and phony vehicle listings. Kelley Blue Book has learned this painful lesson lately through a scam looking to solicit funds from buyers via an escrow-based, guaranteed buyer protection program that KBB doesn't offer.
A driver who was ticketed for flashing his headlights to warn oncoming traffic of radar patrol has filed a statewide class-action lawsuit against the Florida Highway Patrol and other state traffic-enforcement agencies for issuing headlight-flash tickets. The lawsuit claims violation of the driver's First Amendment right to free speech. Florida patrols have stopped citing motorists for flashing headlights until the case is resolved.
