More than 2 million midsize sedans have been sold in the U.S. so far this year. In comparing comparably equipped 2012 models Toyota Camry, Volkswagen Passat, Hyundai Sonata, and Ford Fusion sedans, the redesigned Camry was found to be one of the best bargains in the family sedan category. Fuel costs for its 25/35 mpg city/highway and 28 mpg combined were the least of any family sedan in the evaluation. The 2012 Passat placed among the top five most affordable family sedans in the U.S. while the Sonata was the most affordable family sedan. The 2012 Fusion’s feature pricing and mediocre gas mileage make it the most expensive sedan tested.
