“Sound helps people be aware of cars,” says Kota Kobayashi, a designer at the studio Ustwo. “There’s a safety element to it.”
Electric cars emit only a faint hum, a problem Kobayashi and his colleagues spent two months pondering.

The National Safety Council observes April as Distracted Driving Awareness Month and we are gratified that fleets like PG&E are on board with their mission. We scarcely need reminding that we are experiencing an epidemic of distracted driving. Just last week, it was heartbreaking to hear about the young driver in rural Texas whose pickup truck collided with a minibus, tragically killing 13 people. “I’m sorry. I was texting,” he said.
If that young man had been driving a fleet vehicle, in addition to the deep remorse a company would experience for the lives lost, can you imagine what the financial implications would be?
