Bill Schankel, Interim CEO of NAFA Fleet Management Association, says that as of right now, NAFA has no plans to cancel or postpone I&E. The staff and the Board of Directors are closely monitoring the coronavirus and its potential impact on the meeting on a daily basis.
As a decades-long member of NAFA, the annual Institute & Expo is an event I anticipate with excitement. It’s where I learn what’s new in fleet, check out the latest products and services, interview industry leaders, see my old friends, and make new ones. So, it was especially painful for our FMW team to make the decision to not attend NAFA I&E this year. It was made with an abundance of caution because of our own unique health concerns.
Congratulations to the winners of NAFA’s 2020 Fleet Excellence Awards! We sure will miss seeing them honored on April 7th.
Keep well and drive safety,

NAFA Fleet Management Association (NAFA), the vehicle fleet industry’s largest membership association, announces the finalists for NAFA’s 2020 Fleet Excellence Awards (FLEXYs), the top honors in the fleet and mobility industry.
The FLEXYs shine a spotlight on those who have significantly impacted fleet management in both the corporate and public fleet segments during the previous year. The awards’ nomination process was open to all fleet professionals throughout the United States and Canada, regardless of NAFA Fleet Management Association membership status.
Winners will be announced in March, and will be recognized and take part in a panel presentation on Tuesday, April 7, 2020, at NAFA’s annual conference, the Institute & Expo (I&E) in the Indiana Convention Center, Indianapolis, IN.
And the 2020 FLEXY finalists are:
The electric car revolution won’t succeed until new battery-only vehicles are affordable to average income buyers and a sneak preview ahead of the cancelled Geneva Auto Show showed the industry was still nowhere near achieving this promised land.
It’s not that there aren’t plenty of small cars that look like they should be affordable. But the electric BMW Mini and even the Honda E are completely out of reach of the average buyer.
The European industry must be able to reach out to the mass market with mass market prices for electric cars. French carmaker Citroen unveiled the all-electric little Ami, an electric city car that costs about $6,400 after tax, can carry two people, travel at a top speed of about 30 mph and has range of 43 miles from its 5.5 kWh lithium-ion battery. The Ami was shown as a concept car at Geneva 2019, and looks as though it could well stand in as a golf cart at weekends.

Because marketing is as much art as science, I want to share a post that the Forbes Agency Council recently wrote because it reflects a truism that companies should heed, namely, there are no hard and fast rules for success.
As they say, “there are times in the world of marketing where shirking the trend is not only a better approach, but a more profitable one, as well. Following what others have done before can even be seen as derivative and dull.”
• Send Plain Text Emails - Bernard May, National Positions
Much of the time when it comes to email marketing, people tend to think “the fancier, the better.” While these make look appealing and professional, they often get stuck in spam traps or make their way to the “promotions” folder. Plain text emails may not be as eye-catching but they have a better chance of catching more eyes from the inbox.
