Matt Dyer took the helm at LeasePlan USA in early 2019 and has adroitly led his company through the COVID-19 crisis. He says, “We are implementing strong plans and are excited with the position that we find ourselves in. One of the upsides for us as a business, as LeasePlan last year, is that we didn’t need to make any furloughs. We didn’t have any redundancies. We were still able to retain employee compensation plans, and we made employee communication and recognition a priority. I think that helped ensure a good tailwind as we moved forward in 2021.”
Ed Pierce interviewed Matt to learn how the global fleet management company is positioned to “build back stronger” and guide its clients to meet today's and tomorrow's fleet challenges.
We all know that distracted driving is bad, can even be lethal, but why are we (and our drivers) still doing it and how can we stop? Paul Atchley, Professor of Psychology at the University of South Florida and eDriving’s Brain Science advisor has some insight into that conundrum.

As we learned during the Texas storms in February, a 2021 Ford F-150 Hybrid can even power a house during an electrical outage and provide heat, refrigeration and fresh coffee. Consumers are wondering about when electricity is lost and the all-electric car in the garage runs on a battery that requires a charge.
A Ford F-150 Hybrid can charge electric cars that have run out of juice. As long as you charge at 30 amps or less and have the correct charging adapter for the electric car, the 7.2 Kw Pro Power Onboard can recharge an electric car like it can power various tools and appliances.
If you have a home charging station, that would charge faster. "Instead of using a tow truck to haul an electric car to a charger, why not just bring the charger directly to the car?" Mike Levine, Ford North America product communications manager said.

Tesla updated its Full Self-Driving (FSD) software for some of its drivers - and warned them that the system "may do the wrong thing at the worst time."
"Full Self-Driving is in early limited access Beta and must be used with additional caution. It may do the wrong thing at the worst time, so you must always keep your hands on the wheel and pay extra attention to the road. Do not become complacent," the beta v9 release notes said, according to one driver's screenshot.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk originally said that the beta v9 update would launch in 2018, before delaying its release. In an April tweet, Musk said that drivers would not have to wait past June, but pushed the timeline back again in a July 3 tweet where he admitted that he didn't expect making self-driving cars to "be so hard."
