February 23, 2022 - Just as the auto industry starts to really embrace 21st-century technology, a legislative bill in West Virginia could throw a speedbump in the road of progress. Specifically, the bill hopes to stymie an automaker's ability to push some over-the-air updates to vehicles, depending on how they're used.
The bill would require any post-sale software upgrades to be performed by a dealership rather than an OTA update.
Thankfully, updates to the navigation or entertainment system are excluded, but still, it's hardly a win for consumers. This would require a customer to visit a dealership for a simple upgrade rather than the automaker just pushing it to the car.
The increasing focus of fleet managers on operational efficiency and the advent of remote fleet management will bolster the market growth in the coming years.
Moreover, growing fleet safety and security concerns are augmenting the need for proper fleet management ultimately surging the growth of the market during the forecast period.
The effective scheduling of vehicles, drivers, and route planning helps in increasing efficiency and keeping track of the location of vehicles. Moreover, customer satisfaction is enhanced due to the simplified booking and appointment process.
Used-vehicle inventory climbed during January to more normal levels on weaker sales, according to the Cox Automotive analysis of vAuto Available Inventory data. The average list price dipped from record levels in December.
At the end of January, the average listing price had fallen below peak levels to $27,633 when it had been above $28,000. Still, the average listing price was 29% above the end of January 2021.
The total supply of unsold used vehicles on dealer lots across the U.S. climbed to 2.55 million units at the end of January, compared with Cox Automotive’s revised number of 2.38 million at the end of December. The supply at the end of January was about 1% above a year ago.
