On Monday, MediaTek CEO Rick Tsai and NVIDIA CEO and founder, Jensen Huang, revealed they would combine their strengths to deliver “the most compelling solutions for state-of-the-art connected cars.”
The partnership between two chip-making giants is designed to deliver an all-around smarter in-vehicle experience by fusing NVIDIA’s AI and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) technology with MediaTek’s Dimensity Auto Platform. NVIDIA’s Huang added that combining MediaTek’s system-on-chip (SoC) with the company’s GPU and AI tech will “enable new user experiences, enhanced safety, and new connected services for all vehicle segments, from luxury to entry-level.”
A host of car manufacturers may follow Ford’s lead in partnering with Tesla to gain access to the electric carmaker’s expansive network of Superchargers across the United States.
The deal between Ford and Tesla will see the former send adapters to owners from next year allowing their EVs to be charged through the Tesla Supercharger network. In 2025, Ford will then start to produce EVs with the Tesla charging port, officially known as the North American Charging Standard (NACS), replacing the current Combined Charging System (CCS) port. Tesla currently has approximately 17,000 charging stations across the United States and Ford’s EV owners will gain access to 12,000 of them from next year.
Ford opened order books for the new 2023 F-Series Super Duty trucks last October, piling up 150,000 pre-orders in five weeks. Ford is committed to getting this launch right so that it doesn't hand back Super Duty profits for warranty costs and recalls.
The company implemented Zero Defect processes at the Louisville Assembly Plant and Ohio Assembly Plant that build the truck. The entirety of the Zero Defect enhancements are said to take three hours per vehicle. A contingent of 350 quality inspectors check every truck off the line, including driving every unit 25 miles to look for potential issues that escaped scrutiny.

Our fleet community is exceptionally supportive of one another. A superb example is Wheels' Carlos Oropeza’s article in AFLA’s May Fleet Insight: From Being Stuck to Unstuck: Tactics to Help You When Your Mind is Against You. We thank AFLA for giving us permission to reprint it.
Oropeza writes: "As a fleet family, let's continue to look out for one another and offer a helping hand if we see someone struggling because they are stranded on the side of the emotional road. May your journey always take you to your final destination—and remember that none of us needs to travel alone."
Today, May 31st, is the last day to take advantage of the early bird pricing for AFLA’s Palm Spring’s conference October 2-5. We were delighted when we learned that Mike Pitcher would be keynote speaker. He knows us, he knows our industry, and he is inspirational!
