Walmart is kicking off plans to build and remodel hundreds of stores in the US – and those plans include installing DC fast chargers at thousands of its Walmart and Sam’s Club stores.
Walmart says it’s going to remodel 650 stores across 47 states and Puerto Rico over the next 12 months, and build or convert more than 150 stores in the next five years. DC fast charger installation is included in that plan. It already has almost 1,300 DC fast-charging stations at more than 280 US stores.
The retailer stated that it’s “working on developing a coast-to-coast network of affordable electric vehicle fast-charging stations we hope will make EV ownership a more convenient and accessible choice for Walmart shoppers and associates.”
Electrify America announced the opening of its first indoor flagship station available to the public on February 9 at 928 Harrison St. in San Francisco.
The indoor charging station features 20 hyper-fast chargers providing up to 350 kilowatts (kW) in charging power. While waiting for their vehicles to charge, customers can make use of the dedicated temperature-controlled lounge areas with food and beverage vending options, complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi and restrooms.
With a focus on the customer experience, the all-new indoor charging station offers EV drivers 24/7 access, round-the-clock monitoring and security.

A fleet manager for SAP, a large software company, says that it is dropping Tesla from its fleet because “their prices fluctuate more”.
Tesla has consistently reduced prices over the last two years. It has been great for new buyers and making EVs more affordable, but it’s not all positive. It has destroyed the resale value for current owners. That has been particularly hard for fleet owners. Companies like Autonomy and Hertz, who owned large Tesla fleets, have seen their value drop significantly, and in the case of the latter, they decided to divest.
Steffen Krautwasser, fleet manager at SAP, said that the prices fluctuate too much. “The list prices fluctuate more at Tesla than at other manufacturers, which makes planning more difficult and poses a higher risk for us.”
In this second clip, Sara Sweeney dives into the 3rd Wheel's Sustainability Benchmark findings, revealing critical insights on emerging trends and best practices in fleet management. From the motivations behind sustainability efforts to the diverse perspectives across industries, the discussion sheds light on the challenges and strategies shaping the future of sustainable fleet operations.
