It was assumed that EVs would require fewer repairs than gas-powered vehicles because there were fewer moving parts and systems that required maintenance. But J.D. Power found that, in general, the more technology that is in a vehicle the more service it needs.
“Owners of cutting edge, tech-filled EVs and PHEVs are experiencing problems that are of a severity level high enough for them to take their new vehicle into the dealership at a rate three times higher than that of gas-powered vehicle owners,” said Frank Hanley, senior director of auto benchmarking at J.D. Power.
Shell Fleet Solutions, along with NAFA, administered a survey among NAFA fleet owners, operators, managers and drivers about top trends and priorities for fleets in 2024.
The results are the basis for a new and vital Shell Fleet Solutions whitepaper. The survey examined such crucial fleet issues as total cost of ownership (TCO), EVs, safety, sustainability and business growth.
Among the key findings: 89% agreed or strongly agreed total cost of ownership was the top concern/priority for 2024. Safety came in second as a top priority (86%), and efficiency management (82%) in third.

Europe's historic new vehicle safety requirement, which could radically reduce road deaths in high-speed crashes, is doable here, too — if communities stand up and demand it, supporters say.
Effective today, every new car sold in the European Union must be equipped with an Intelligent Speed Assist (ISA) system that automatically senses the surrounding speed limit and sends drivers an alert to slow down.
At the state level, governments are successfully arguing for the public health benefits of curbing speeds, with California already on track to pass a bill that would require passive ISA when drivers go more than 10 miles an hour over the limit.
July 7 is the first day of the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s (CVSA) weeklong driver-safety traffic enforcement initiative, Operation Safe Driver Week. From July 7 to 13, drivers exhibiting unsafe driving behaviors on our roadways, such as speeding, distracted driving, aggressive driving, following too closely, etc., will be pulled over by law enforcement personnel and may be issued a warning or citation.
Each year, Operation Safe Driver Week focuses on a specific unsafe driving behavior in an effort to combat that dangerous habit. The focus area for this year’s Operation Safe Driver Week is reckless, careless or dangerous driving. Any person who drives a vehicle in willful or wanton disregard for the safety of persons or property is driving recklessly. Careless/dangerous driving is defined as operating a vehicle without due care and attention or reasonable consideration for other motorists or people on the road.
