Zipcar has dominated the consumer car-sharing market for eight years. Hertz Connect commences this month to compete directly with them.
Used vehicles are stacking up on dealer lots due to the credit crunch and industry woes. Wholesale prices fell to a 14-year average low of $8,628, and dealers had a 66-day supply of used vehicles at the end of October (up from a 43-day supply at the end of October 2007). Some dealers, though, are stocking up because they see the low prices as a great opportunity.
Freight companies are experiencing lost business and expect it to continue through 2009. Auto industry and consumer retail struggling in poor economy so fewer goods being shipped.
