Experian Automotive reported scrappage rates significantly increased in the 4th quarter of 2010. Cars rose by 28.3% while light trucks climbed by 58.2%. In the second half of 2010 17.5M used vehicles changed hands while 5.7M vehicles were scrapped.

Accuracy of Vehicle History Data Challenged
The IARA (International Automotive Remarketers Alliance) held a spirited debate regarding the accuracy of vehicle history data. The use of the term "possible" frame damage or "possible" mileage discrepancy was challenged by consignors and remarketers as vague and unnecessary. CarFax agreed to study the issue with the intent of improving the data while reminding the participants their role is to protect the consumer.
