Although rarely the key reason for a business merging, managing the transition in the fleet can be critical as well as a cost-saving process. Mergers are a constant in the fleet management business with 70% of all business mergers having an effect within the fleet operations. The Republic/Allied merger reduced the number of vehicles from 22,745 to 21,277.
Throughout the first half of the year, Kelley Blue Book reiterated that it has reported remarkable strength among values of fuel-efficient subcompact, compact and hybrid vehicles. From January through May, analysts determined fuel-efficient vehicle values increased 20 to 25 percent, far surpassing the overall used-market average increase of 5 percent during the same time period. With fuel costs dropping, however, prices for fuel-efficient models have been softening.
The Union of Concerned Scientists says Ford and Toyota are producing the best hybrid vehicles. The group ranks the Prius, Fusion hybrid and Honda Civic hybrid on top in the non-luxury segment. The Lincoln MKZ hybrid and Lexus CT 200H were tops in luxury.
