Glenn Lurie, president of AT&T's Emerging Devices business, spoke at a wireless industry gathering in San Diego, CA, on the connection of cars to the Internet. He estimated 100% of new vehicles will be connected in three to five years. This will change the economics of the car business.
Eight states require owners to kennel or tether animals because of the severe danger sudden stops and potential collisions pose to pets. Sudden stops can result in an unrestrained animal being thrown through the windshield. At 35 mph, a 60-pound unrestrained dog can cause an impact of 2,700 pounds, slamming into a car seat, windshield or passenger.
Cars.com audited the market's 47 models of SUVs, minivans and wagons with three rows of seats available and found most have curtain airbags that span all three rows. Six models stop their curtains at the second row. There currently are no crash tests for third rows, and IIHS doesn't plan to conduct third-row testing anytime soon.
Traditional snow tires feature very wide tread gaps and work well in snow, but are loud and clunky without it. Winter tires are made for all types of winter weather and offer advantages in extremely cold weather, ice, and on dry pavement. Winter tires allow quicker stopping; better control means fewer rear-end accidents.
The Manheim Used Vehicle Value Index fell for the fourth month in a row in September, but Tom Webb, Manheim chief economist, has reiterated that he doesn't believe that record used-vehicle prices represent a bubble. He went on to explain that a bubble can't truly develop in the wholesale market because there isn't any speculation or hoarding, and neither are there any future contracts. "What we have seen since May is a clearing out of some excesses or as I would call it a swing of pendulum back to equilibrium, not a bubble bursting," he added.
