The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is dealing with the “too much too little” quandary over how driverless cars should be regulated. NHTSA just issued its most detailed statement on it so far – it wants to see drivers testing out these cars to get extra training and special licenses to prove they can safely operate these vehicles on public roads – and only test vehicles on roads for now. The agency always warns states to not overdo it with too many specific guidelines…..
Mitsubishi has issued a recall of its i-MiEV electric car and Outlander plug-in hybrid crossover in Japan. It comes from a manufacturing plant crisis in March where a glitch caused one of its lithium ion battery packs to melt and another one to catch fire. The battery breakdowns and recalls are a blow for Mitsubishi, which has been counting on plug-ins to rebrand itself as an eco-leader. The company has been focusing on fleet sales in the US to introduce these technologies to the market….
Hybrid electric vehicles are doing much better at retaining their market value than are plug-in electric vehicles, according to a Kelley Blue Book report. Kelley Blue Book expects the hybrid market to outperform the EVs for quite some time. The EV charging infrastructure is still in early stages and consumers are still getting used to the idea of trying out that new technology.
