NextGear Capital has created two new industry awards to recognize independently-owned auto auctions for their dedication to and support of the industry. The introduction of these two awards will take place at the National Auto Auction Association’s annual convention on Sept. 4th in Indianapolis, Ind.
The Operational Excellence Award will be presented to the auction that demonstrates excellent efficiency, top sales retention and overall operational performance, and most effective response to the needs of NextGear Capital. Remarketing Excellence Award will recognize the auction that demonstrates the highest percentage of sales recovered based on percentage of valuation of each vehicle, the best throughput performance (number of days from when a vehicle is at the auction to days sold), and the best sales follow-up (efficient timing on getting proceeds of sales to NextGear Capital).
CarMax Inc. is the giant in retail used vehicle sales in the US. In its 2012 fiscal year, it sold twice as many used cars and trucks than its nearest competitor, AutoNation Inc. CarMax specializes in used vehicles up to six years old, offering consumers no-haggle prices and a low-pressure buying environment.
Selling late-model used vehicles pays off for CarMax. The average retail selling price of for CarMax was $18,995 in its fiscal year ending Feb. 29, 2012, vs. $17,547 at franchise dealerships for used vehicle transactions in 2012, according to the National Automobile Dealers Association.
