Climate Change Deniers 1, Planet 0
One consequence of the U.S. Senate’s looming Republican rule is that Senator James Inhofe (R-OK) is tipped to chair the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee. A staunch climate change denier, and author of the book The Greatest Hoax: How the Global Warming Conspiracy Threatens Your Future, the timing of his ascension to head this powerful committee portends a serious challenge to efforts to curb greenhouse gas emissions. This article in Tuesday's New York Times gives some insight into the tactics afoot.
The U.N’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change recently released the fourth and final volume of their climate assessment – which is stark and foreboding. “Science has spoken. There is no ambiguity in their message. Leaders must act. Time is not on our side,” said U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. What can we do? Hold our elected officials accountable -- our kids and grandkids deserve no less from us.

The Automotive Fleet and Leasing Association (AFLA) annual conference was held to rave reviews September 7-10 at the M Resort Spa & Casino in Las Vegas. A record attendance of over 475 fleet professionals turned out for the chance to network with colleagues and gain valuable insight on key industry issues.
The theme of the 2014 conference; Learn, Innovate, Win: Improving Your Odds for Fleet Success, showcased industry-related presentations, keynote speakers and panel discussions.
Prior to the first keynote address for the 2014 International Fleet Academy, taking place November 5-7 in Orlando, Florida, NAFA Fleet Management Association Chief Executive Officer Phillip E. Russo, CAE noted the exponential growth of the IFA, and the challenges of maintaining the event's fundamental purpose.
"This is our fourth year with IFA and it has grown from an invitation-only event in the meeting room at NAFA Headquarters with about fifteen fleet managers, to a ballroom-sized conference, to last year's sold out event, right to this year's," Russo said.
The number of 2014 IFA attendees well-exceeded the Association’s goal, and the turn-out initially raised concerns. "Our intent has always been for the IFA to be an intimate group, keeping the ratio at around two fleet managers to every one service provider attending. Yet, the interest in the IFA was so good, we had to bump the number up. I believe we have struck that right ratio here, judging from the enthusiastic turnout for Day One of the event."
NAFA’s IFA focuses on developing and implementing fleet policies across the globe. This three day conference is specifically designed to meet the needs of those who manage fleets outside of the United States and Canada. The IFA offers global fleet managers an opportunity to engage with each other while sharing information on a peer-to-peer level.

Whether traveling on rural roads or inner-city streets, you’re likely to see a lot more bicyclists pedaling their way alongside four-wheeled traffic. Bikes have become hip again, it seems, especially with Generations X and Y.
Unfortunately, new research reveals that with the increase in bicycle usage, there’s a concurrent increase in crashes, the annual cycle death rate rising from 621 to 722 between 2010 to 2012, reports the Governors Highway Safety Association, or GHSA.
That’s an alarming 16% jump even as overall highway deaths – including automobiles, motorcycles, pedestrians and bicycles – has been declining.
