Minnesota Just Passed a Law That’s Going to Ramp up EV Adoption

Minnesota’s new law includes an EV rebate of $2,500 for a new car and $600 for a used one, with no income caps, among other EV incentives.

That puts Minnesota in the company of such states as Connecticut, California, Massachusetts, and Maine, and it joins Illinois as one of two Midwestern states with EV rebate programs.

Minnesotans will receive $15.716 million in first-time rebates for purchasing EVs. The rebates are limited to new vehicles with an MSRP of $55,000 or below and used vehicles that sell for $25,000 or below.

Driving Impaired Cannot Be an Option This Memorial Day

For many, Memorial Day weekend marks the unofficial start to summer: a season full of friends, family and travel. Many will choose to travel by car to visit and celebrate with loved ones, but tragically, too many will not make it home safely.

The National Safety Council estimates nearly 470 people in America will die in preventable traffic crashes from 6 p.m. on Friday, May 26 to 11:59 p.m. Monday, May 29.

"Car travel has the highest fatality rate of any major mode of transportation based on fatalities per passenger mile," warns Mark Chung, executive vice president of roadway practice at NSC. "The reasons for this, particularly over a holiday weekend such as Memorial Day, are impairment from alcohol and/or another substance such as cannabis, as well as distraction and speed. For the safety and wellbeing of yourself, and the people around you, designate a sober driver or arrange alternate transportation, drive distraction-free and slow down."

Effort to Kill State Vehicle Safety Inspections Advances in Texas Senate

Texas senators voted 20-11 in favor of ending vehicle safety inspections. Some Republican lawmakers have tried for years to shut down the state’s inspection program, saying inspections are an inconvenience to drivers and do not improve road safety.

Sen. Nathan Johnson (D-Dallas) urged his colleagues to keep inspections, saying lives are at stake. Johnson pointed to a new American Society of Civil Engineers study that found inspection programs have reduced car crash deaths across the country. States that have vehicle safety inspections have 5.5% fewer fatalities per year than states that don't have inspection programs.

Even if the inspections go away, the state will still get your money. The current bill would simply convert the $7.50 inspection fee the state collects to a new charge drivers would pay when they register their cars.

Pedal to the Metal: A Guide for Small-Midsize Fleets to Accelerate Business

Small-midsize fleets play a crucial role in daily life, but the demands they face continue to climb. Managing these demands while maintaining a profitable, service-oriented fleet is easier with the right tools, like a transportation management system (TMS).

More than 35% of fleets today use a Transportation Management System (TMS) for efficient operations and a better bottom line. But there are a lot of choices, and it’s important to find the TMS that fits your business, rather than adapting your business to fit a TMS.

Read “Pedal to the Metal” to understand what the right TMS can do for your fleet.
