Mitsubishi is extending an investigation into "repair directives" to check everything that can possibly be checked after the automaker recently admitted it never "came clean" following a scandal four years ago about hiding vehicle defect information. Mitsubishi is conducting a full re-investigation of all 55,000 product information reports from April 2001 to May 2004. Meanwhile, Mitsubishi’s brand image has been badly tarnished as bus companies and local governments won’t buy its buses.
Saab is considering selling cars with a key fob that has a built-in breath analyzer which would shut down the vehicle if the driver is drunk. "Alcokey" is equipped with a small mouthpiece that the driver blows into to determine his or her alcohol level. The device, still under development, could arrive on the market within a few years and should cost about $300.
