Google is reaching way out past its iconic search engine with smart phones and tablet computers. Making cars more fuel efficient is now on the list through a partnership with Ford. A system based on Google Predictive API "learns" driver's patterns, predicts destinations, and then suggests routes that are energy efficient and tailored to driver and vehicle.
Researchers at Massachusetts Institute of Technology have just completed a detailed study on biofuels used in transportation, primarily by major airlines testing biofuels to reduce their oil dependence and limit their greenhouse gas emissions. Much of the time, biofuels are far cleaner than typical fuel, but there are situations where they are worse.

These features originally were intended for electric vehicles and hybrids but now are being adapted to conventional gasoline-powered vehicles, too.
