In the same document recommending a ban on cell phone use by all drivers, the NTSB also recommended that the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration require all heavy commercial vehicles be equipped with video event recorders that capture data in connection with the driver and the outside environment and roadway in the event of a crash or sudden deceleration event. The Board is also asking for mandated collision avoidance systems in heavy trucks.
Black Book Managing Editor Ricky Beggs points out that wholesale parking lots may be a bit deceiving when dealers look at the condition of vehicles sitting there. More and more vehicles are of average condition, rather than clean condition. Of the average condition adjustments, Black Book indicated 39 percent of these adjustments were increases, while just 24 percent of clean condition adjustments resulted in a price increase.
