Toyota Financial Services has put a temporary hold on auction sales of eight vehicles involved in the current recall for sticking accelerator pedals. Lexus or Scion vehicles are not affected by the TFS announcement.
Tom Webb, chief economist for Manheim, expects used-vehicle sales to improve in 2010, even though some dealers will continue to have floor plan and capital loan issues. He's also looking for better news in the job market and a declining fleet market.
The National Truck Equipment Association is holding its annual conference complete with The Work Truck Show exhibition, Green Truck Summit and Green Truck Ride-and-Drive in St. Louis, Missouri between March 9-12, 2010. Events will include expert learning sessions for distributors, equipment upfitters and fleets as well as over 500 exhibitors and a dozen green trucks to test drive.
Not only is CNW Market Research anticipating a 9 percent increase in used sales for January, but current floor-traffic data has the firm predicting a strong spring/summer selling season. Based on deliveries during the first 15 days of the month, CNW expects January to end with 2 million used vehicles sold. Additionally, it expects sales for all retail channels - franchised, independent and private party - to increase in January from 6.6 percent to more than 15 percent.
Daimler North America's bus unit has orders in place for almost 100 of its transit buses, nearly all of them clean diesel engine buses and only a handful diesel-hybrid drivetrains. Municipalities have been particularly hard hit in the current recession and significantly higher purchase cost of the hybrids tilted the deal.
