BMW’s DriveNow car sharing program has a partnership with MyCityWay that will integrate the company’s location-based, situationally-aware mobile platform into the automaker’s fleet of vehicles in San Francisco. Designed to help users explore, enjoy and navigate major cities, MyCityWay will be installed in each of the 70 DriveNow BMW ActiveE electric vehicles.
DriveNow is a premium car sharing service launched by BMW is San Francisco last summer. The DriveNow fleet currently consists of 70 fully-electric ActiveE vehicles located at ten DriveNow stations around the San Francisco Bay Area, including hubs serving the Silicon Valley, SFO and Oakland International Airports....
Honda released its eighth annual report on the environmental impact of the company’s operations in North America and its ongoing efforts to minimize that impact by reducing waste, conserving resources, and improving energy efficiency. The Honda 2012 North American Environmental Report covers the fiscal year that ended March 31, 2012. Highlights of the report include:
• Products – the CO2-adjusted fleet-average fuel economy of Honda and Acura automobiles sold in the U.S. in model year 2011 rose 0.8 mpg, or 3.2%, to 25.7 mpg, versus the previous model year. This compares to an increase of 0.2 mpg, or 0.4%, to 22.8 mpg for the total U.S. light-duty vehicle fleet during the same period.....
Nissan has opened the largest lithium-ion battery plant in the US at its Smyrna, Tenn., facility, to make battery packs that will go under the hood during ramp-up of production of its 2013 Nissan Leafs early next year. The milestone also marks the two year anniversary of the Nissan Leaf in the US market, where 18,000 units have been sold and 46,000 worldwide. So far, it’s the largest selling battery electric vehicle in history.
The Smyrna plant is one of three of its kind in the world. The first batteries produced at the plant have undergone a starting phase and are now ready to receive their first charge. The facility is capable of expanding to produce modules for up to 200,000 batteries annually depending on market demand. Those batteries can serve as the power source for the all-electric Nissan LEAF and for future vehicles that could be added to the portfolio.....
