The American Transportation Research Institute unveiled the North American Fatigue Management Program website. NAFMP gives a complete approach to commercial driver fatigue management, with free suggestions and training. The website also includes a Return-on-Investment calculator that allows fleet managers to estimate the cost-benefit of deploying the program completely or selecting a customized program.
NHTSA may add almost 5,000 vehicles to a recall of the Chevrolet Malibu Eco, Buick LaCrosse and Buick Regal sedans. GM said it would recall the 2012 and 2013 cars because a faulty generator that could stall the engine or cause a fire. NHTSA says the fire may expand the recall to nearly 43,000 cars.
Average fuel economy for new 2013 model vehicles sold in the US is 24.6 mpg, up 1.1 mpg from 2012 models, according to researchers at University of Michigan. Toyota has hit a landmark sales figure with its Prius model lineup reaching the three million mark in global sales. It wasn’t really that long ago that the Prius hit the one million mark – it was in 2008 even though the product had been originally launched in 1997 in Japan. Resale values haven’t been as strong lately as years ago, and some of this may have to do with the flood of hybrid models on the market now from various automakers; and gasoline prices haven’t spiked up enough lately for hybrids to be as strong as they can be on the resale market according to a few analysts….
