Research by the Society of Automotive Engineers says drivers fail to use their turn signals 2 billion times each day. The study says the problem results in about 2 million roadway collisions annually, more than twice the 950,000 accidents linked to distracted driving. The SAE suggests an alternative it calls the "Smart Turn Signal" that would flash with a reminder if it senses a driver routinely ignores their turn signal.
