Honest Leadership a Good Place for GM’s Barra to Begin
Mary Barra didn’t mince words with her take on a stinging internal assessment of what went wrong in the ignition switch recall scandal blamed for at least 13 deaths and nearly 50 accidents.
Barra called the 315- page report by Anton Valukas, a former U.S. attorney, “extremely thorough, brutally tough and deeply troubling.” It details “a history of failures” in which “nobody took responsibility” and there was “no demonstrated sense of urgency” in a saga “riddled with failures.”
With documented corroboration of insiders, Barra included, it confirms in stark terms the dark underside of GM’s culture, proving some of the worst, most caricatured aspects of old GM exist still in the new one.
Comprehensive Guide to Road Safety Launched
The Network of Employers for Traffic Safety (NETS) has launched their Comprehensive Guide to Road Safety (Guide) for employers with large or small fleets and new, developing or advanced road safety programs
“The Guide provides an excellent starting point for companies and organizations of all sizes with all types of fleets wanting to put in place a road safety program for their operations,” said Mike Watson, Global Road Safety Manager at Shell International Petroleum Company and member of NETS’ Board of Directors.
“The Guide also serves as a tool for fleet safety managers to compare their existing programs to those of leading employers in road safety.”
