Nearly half of all the electric vehicles (EVs) sold in the US have been sold in California. Is this because only Californians are interested in using EVs to go get tangerines from that on the off-ramp by the 2?
To understand why more EVs are being sold in California, UCS teamed up with Consumers Union to field a representative survey of drivers in California and 9 Northeast states that assessed driving behaviors and vehicle needs, and also attitudes and understanding toward EVs.
Arizona Public Service (APS) is replacing its 2,138 fleet vehicles – cars, forklifts, ATVs, bucket trucks, etc. – with electric alternatives where economically feasible.
“Just as we’ve worked to modernize our grid and provide cleaner energy, we are now modernizing our fleet to reduce our carbon footprint,” said Donna Easterly, APS Vice President and Chief Procurement Officer.
“The fleet will be more efficient and last longer, and our bucket trucks will operate more quietly which makes inspecting and repairing power lines safer for our linemen and less disruptive for our customers.”
Before the advent of Work Truck Solutions, it was pretty much impossible to search for specific work trucks and other commercial vehicles online.

On our recent visit to the UK we heard a good deal about the tax implications of vehicle emissions in Europe and how they weigh on certain strategic decisions fleet managers must make. Europe has very strong and popular environmental rules. Alarmingly, the U.S. now has a presumptive presidential nominee who scoffs at the proven science of climate change. We will find out in November where we, as a nation, stand on this vital issue.
Fleets have an enormous role to play in this arena. In his latest column for Fleet Management Weekly, sustainability expert Brian Matuszewski points out some proven measures that fleets can take to make both a positive impact on the environment and lower their fuel costs.
Not so incidentally, we note this week that two public utility fleets -- California’s PG&E and Arizona Public Service are joining an increasing number of fleets that are strongly committing to electric alternatives. The future is here.
