In 2003, more than half of those killed in SUVs died in rollovers causing some concerned citizens to call for more regulations. While fatalities in passenger cars went down 3.8%, there was an 11% increase in SUV crash deaths. Motor vehicle crashes are the eighth leading cause of death for Americans.
Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle recently outlined steps his administration took to reduce the state's car fleet. The Governor also ordered further actions to continue to reduce the fleet size and bring greater accountability. Vehicle records revealed that over 50% of 1,700 vehicles assigned to individuals were driven less than 16,000 miles, the state's threshold below which it's cheaper to pay employees mileage for driving their own cars.
