Despite improvement in some fatality trends, increasing motorcycle and pedestrian deaths led to an overall rise in highway fatalities in 2005. The NHTSA is encouraging motorcyclists to wear helmets and get proper training; almost half of riders fatally injured were not wearing helmets.
