The US transportation system is underfunded using primarily fuel tax revenue. Fuel conservation measures ironically result in less revenue so the shortfall is increasing. Transportation Secretary Peters proposed reducing fuel taxes and replacing the funding with controversial congestion pricing and private capital.
Commercial driver's license holders with severe health problems including vision, hearing and seizure disorders have been allowed to drive trucks. The FMCSA has failed to take action to correct the problem considered "most wanted" by the NTSB since 2001. Congress is conducting hearings on the failure.
