Galves Auto Price List Editor Dan Galves says he saw was the most abrupt marketplace shift he can recall ever seeing.
It’s appearing to impact all segments, though 2011 and later model vehicles are getting hit hard. It looks to be disproportionately affected by the current climate of aggressive leasing programs and manufacturer incentives.
Galves is seeing two distinct segments taking the hit the hardest, and one brand in particular.
On the retail used car sales side, Art Spinella and the CNW Research team saw something different, especially for franchised dealers and private party (casual) sales.
It was a tougher month for independent dealers in September.
Ricky Beggs and the Black Book team noticed an anomaly out in the market – while gasoline prices were down for the third straight week, the typical drop in pricing for fuel efficient vehicles weren’t hurt by it.

Fuel prices continued declining for the third straight week. While that’s typically softened demand for more fuel efficient vehicles, they saw smaller declining level in past week, Black Book said. Entry Mid-size Cars dropped -$29, Upper Mid-size Car was at -$30, and these were followed closely by Entry Level Cars at -$31 and Compact Cars at -$35. Full-size cars saw a steeper decline at -$50.
Harrisburg Auto Auction, based in Mechanicsburg, Pa., won “Best Overall Auction” in Used Car News annual Best of Auctions survey; 11 auctions were honored in 10 categories. The auction turned 31 this year, and won the “Best Facility” category last year. The National Independent Automobile Dealers Association has also named its award winner – Dealers Auto Auction of the Rockies has been named Auto Auction of the Year.
