The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) passed a new rule in December 2015 regarding the use of Electronic Logging Devices (ELD) in commercial motor vehicles in which drivers are mandated to record their Hours of Service (HOS).
While new mandates are generally met with a collective sigh and an eye roll, there are significant operational benefits that can come along with the new technology. And as more OEMs build in mobile enterprise management (MEM) systems into their vehicles at the factory, implementation will become even easier.
Service and technology providers are working to make it as simple as possible to implement, and equally as simple for the driver to interact with, the technology. Telogis, for instance, currently provides MEM platform solutions to many of the major commercial vehicle OEMs. In these cases, the necessary ELD hardware will be pre-installed in new vehicles, helping to lower the new hardware costs associated with compliance.
NAFA’s annual conference, the Institute & Expo (I&E), is founded on the mission to educate, inform, and prepare. This year’s conference takes place in Austin, Texas, April 19-22 and has a full roster of education sessions to achieve those goals, including the standout session “Mergers and Acquisitions: Now You’ve Gone Global.”
The session “Mergers and Acquisitions: Now You’ve Gone Global” on Wednesday, April 20, will guide attendees through strategies to identify key performance traits found in effective intercontinental fleets, discover the best ways to begin transitioning from one way of doing things to another, and gives attendees a forum to hear testimonies of fleet managers who were thrown into the global fleet world through mergers and acquisitions, and made positive efforts through the changes.
Driving at night is one of the most dangerous activities you can do in a car.
Research from the federal government has shown that you're three times more likely to die in a nighttime car crash than in a daytime accident.
That figure is no doubt heightened by the effects of drunken and drowsy driving — but poor night vision can also play a role.
The work truck experts at Element are adept at solving their customers’ problems. They strive to keep fleets as simple as possible, and they also make sure to fit the truck to the job - not the other way around.
Ford F-150 nabs lone good rating for small overlap protection
Three out of seven large pickup trucks IIHS evaluated in a new round of crash tests earn an acceptable or higher rating for occupant protection in a small overlap front crash.
IIHS evaluated two body styles of each 2016 model-year pickup — crew cab and extended cab. Crew cabs have four full doors and two full rows of seating. Extended cabs have two full front doors, two smaller rear doors and compact second-row seats.
