At a time when budgets matter a whole lot, potential new car buyers are pleading with manufacturers: “Keep it simple, stupid.”
AutoPacific’s Future Attribute Demand Study (FADS), surveyed more than 14,000 people who intend to purchase a vehicle in the $25,000-$35,000 range in the next three years. Buyers had a far simpler list of desired features. Only 15% said they want heads-up display or premium stereo systems. Even fewer wanted leather seats, with just 11% checking that box.
They also value practicality over design. Hand-crank windows might not be coming back, but physical needles on the speedometer and tach may have a future yet.

A new survey has revealed which laws drivers are most likely to break, with over 60% of respondents admitting to two specific behaviors.
Of the 67% of drivers who acknowledged eating while driving, 53% were Baby Boomers, 73% Gen X, 70% Millennials, and 73% Gen Z. Of the survey’s respondents, 67% admitted to eating while driving within the past year.
The second-most frequently broken traffic law was speeding, at 62% within the past year, affecting at least half of drivers of all ages. Still, Gen Z was the least likely to speed at 54%, while Gen X’s 66% was the segment’s highest rate.

Much like the deal signed with Japan last week, the European Union and the United States agreement lowers the auto tariff to 15%, down from the anticipated 30% that was set to take effect after the August 1 deadline.
Even with the new tariff rate of 15% still significantly higher than the roughly 2.5% EU automakers faced prior to Trump’s second term, US automakers and autoworkers aren’t likely to be impressed.
US automakers also import about half the vehicles they sell in the country, as well as many of their parts. High tariffs still apply to cars imported putting US companies at a disadvantage.

The odds of pulling up to a station with broken, crowded, or painfully slow chargers are shrinking. The chances of you finding a reliable, high-powered station—complete with WiFi, restrooms and even a decent cup of coffee and a variety of snacks—are steadily increasing.
The U.S. now has 11,687 public fast charging stations with nearly 60,000 ports. About 4,242 of these ports were added across 784 stations in the second quarter of this year, a 23.3% increase over the previous quarter.
Tesla, ChargePoint and EVgo led this quarter-over-quarter speed of deployment. America is on track to add 16,700 public fast-charging ports by the end of this year.

The One Big Beautiful Bill (OBBB) has resulted in substantial changes that impact how commercial fleets operate. Enacted on July 4th, OBBB is a comprehensive piece of legislation that is already beginning to make a significant impact.
One of the immediate effects is a significant rollback of green initiatives that, until recently, were central to commercial fleet planning.
For fleet managers, the finance and taxation provisions of the OBBB present some exciting opportunities. Fleets will be able to take advantage of immediate and full expensing—meaning 100% bonus depreciation—on all qualified vehicles and equipment.

For this edition of Fleet Pro Focus we catch up with Jeff Cunningham, Senior Director of Business Development for Signature Graphics.
A familiar figure in the fleet world, Jeff can be seen running miles of trails or gliding through the pool while attending conferences like AFLA.
“I’m a big proponent of positive disruption. The saying, ‘if it’s not broke, don’t fix it’ no longer applies to a world where advancements, such as A.I., change best practices at light speed.”

We had a discussion with Jay Collins, SVP and GM of Energy Transition at WEX, to hear his thoughts on WEX’s new EV Depot Solution, its acquisition of Sawatch Labs, and their perspectives on upcoming EV technology trends.
WEX’s all-in-one charging platform consolidates data from various chargers and fueling stations, providing managers with complete visibility into all their charging.
“With our toolkit available, drivers can easily find the best place to charge, whether at home, work, or on the go… We aim to make the process as simple as possible, so the driver knows exactly where to go and which tool to use…”
