Trust and Knowledge

Remarketing work trucks and equipment calls for considerable expertise; they truly are in a class of their own. In Work Fleet Remarketing: Trust. Knowledge. The FLD Way!,  FLD executive Rich Mallek gives us insight into how this respected firm manages these unique transactions. We like this clue to their success: “Besides being work fleet experts,” Mallek says, “we strive to be good people first. And to build genuine relationships with our customers that last years.”

Fleet marketing expert Ed Pierce offers us sage counsel in his latest  column: Why ‘Stories’ Win in Fleet Supplier Marketing. Ed says, “If you haven’t made customer stories a top-three priority this quarter, you’re likely ceding the shortlist to suppliers who have.”

Fleet Marketing

By Ed Pierce, Editor, Fleet Management Weekly

If you sell into the automotive fleet ecosystem, you already know the buyers are busy, skeptical, and under pressure to deliver measurable results. They don’t have time for vague promises. What does break through? Real stories.

Real stories need to be succinct, well-structured case studies that show how your product or service solved a specific fleet problem and produced outcomes worth repeating.

This isn’t just a creative preference; it’s how B2B buyers evaluate risk. That’s because stories compress due diligence into a single, digestible asset: they name the problem, explain the intervention, and prove the impact.

If you haven’t made customer stories a top-three priority this quarter, you’re likely ceding the shortlist to suppliers who have.

Fleet Consulting

By Fleet Management Weekly Staff

We spoke with Matthew Betz, founder of Ore Creek Fleet Consulting, to learn more about how his company is connecting new vendors with the fleets that need their solutions most.

Instead of going it alone and approaching the insular fleet market from the outside, Ore Creek Fleet Consulting provides an insider’s view into the nuances of Fleet selling.

Ore Creek Fleet Consulting collaborates with new vendors to introduce them to fleets, represent them at industry events, and train them on building relationships within the fleet industry.

“Fleets are unique, and the marketplace is relatively closed. Anyone coming from outside the fleet industry with no insider experience might find it daunting to understand how fleets think and how decisions are made.”

The Hidden Reason Your Car Repair Bill Keeps Getting Bigger in 2025

The 2025 story is simple and brutal and not getting any better: owners wait longer, pay more, and chase the few shops that can handle camera and radar calibration after glass, bumper, or suspension work.

More calibrations equal more time on specialized targets, more floor space, more labor. That’s how a “simple” windshield turns into a multi-hour job.

Industry data show the average total cost of repair nudged higher again in the first half of 2025 after finishing 2024 above $4,700. Labor rates keep stepping up, and the “miscellaneous” lines—diagnostics, programming, and ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) calibration—carry a bigger share of the ticket.

Drivers Caught Off Guard as County’s Speed Cameras Issue 1,000 Tickets A Day

It’s taken less than six months for the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) to clock more than 168,000 drivers for speeding through construction zones.

The focus of the crackdown is on the Interstate 465/Interstate 69 work zone in Marion County. Speed cameras have been installed at the site and automatically detect any motorist traveling at least 11 mph (18 km/h) over the posted speed limit, which is set at 45 mph (72 km/h).

“Overall, we are seeing people slowing down through this work zone,” INDOT spokesperson Natalie Garrett said in early June. “In late May, we did see instances of excessive speed down about 75%, which is pretty significant.”

Expert Reveals What’s Even Harder for New Drivers Than Parallel Parking

Many new drivers sweat the technical maneuvers, such as parallel parking. But experts argue traffic crashes – the leading cause of death for 15-to-18-year-olds – are often because new drivers can’t yet detect hazards.

A National Institutes of Health survey found that regular and frequent supervised driving practice protects teen drivers from potentially deadly crashes. In fact, practice reduced crashes by 39%.

Lynn Rogers, president of the Driving School Association of the Americas, emphasized, “Approaching intersections is the hardest because that’s where the lack of skill shows itself.” Understanding how aggressive drivers might rush a four-way stop – or how pedestrians might jaywalk without looking – just takes wheel time. And the safest way to get that time is supervised practice.

Gas Price Map Shock: Why Gas Is $4.60 in California but $2.60 in Oklahoma

Gas prices aren’t numbers on a sign — they’re a national mood swing. Pull into a California station and you’ll feel your wallet flinch: $4.60 a gallon, easy. Cross a few state lines into Oklahoma, and suddenly gas feels almost cheap again.

West Coast refineries don’t connect to the rest of the country with big pipelines, so backup supply stays limited. When a plant goes down for maintenance, prices jump and stay high because there’s not much spare capacity to cover the gap.

Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Texas sit close to the nation’s largest refining hub along the Gulf Coast. More refineries and shorter delivery distances mean cheaper wholesale gasoline and fewer price spikes when one plant has trouble.

Battery Technology

By Ed Pierce, Editor, Fleet Management Weekly

Battery technology is evolving rapidly, reshaping the future of commercial fleets. For executives weighing fleet investment decisions, the landscape is a mix of rapid technical progress and shifting U.S. policy.

Globally, EV adoption is accelerating, especially in China and Europe. The U.S. will continue to grow, albeit at a slower pace, if policy support wanes.

Still, battery innovations—such as higher range, faster charging, and lower costs—will continue to improve the business case for electrification.

Fleet Cards for Today

By RoadFlex

The way fleets run has changed dramatically since the 1990s. Back then, fuel cards were a simple tool: drivers swiped at the pump, agencies paid the bill, and reporting arrived weeks later. For gas-only fleets with limited technology needs, that was enough.

In this world, the fuel cards of the 1990s fall short. They weren’t designed for the complexity of modern fleets or the accountability standards public agencies must uphold.

Across the country, agencies are recognizing that payment tools must do more than process transactions. They need a platform that helps them manage strategically—and that platform is RoadFlex.

One of the fleet industry’s mainstays, Merchants Fleet has been around since 1962. The fact that they maintain an impressive industry profile to this day is testimony to their ability to remain flexible and adapt to an ever changing business landscape.

To get a better idea about how fleets can benefit from being flexible on vehicles and specifications, we had a most enlightening Q&A session with industry pro Tim Mundahl, Director, Fleet Consulting with Merchants Fleet.

“Fleets that once prided themselves on consistency now realize that adaptability is the true gold standard. Building flexibility into every aspect of vehicle acquisition is how top-performing fleets are winning today.”
