A Call to Action: A Suggested Plan for Your Next Email Campaign Targeting Fleet Decision-Makers

A Call to Action: Fueling the Sales Funnel - Marketing Strategies for Fleet Industry Service Providers

By Ed Pierce, Fleet Management Weekly’s Brand Acceleration

July 3, 2024

After years of building and receiving marketing proposals, I’d like to share with my peers an email campaign strategy that is proven to work in targeting corporate and government fleet managers and decision-makers. The goal is to generate prospects’ interest and increase conversions of fleet optimization services.

Recognize that a supplier must focus on delivering valuable, targeted content that addresses key pain points and demonstrates the benefits of our solutions for improving fleet efficiency, reducing costs, and enhancing operations.

Identify Your Target Audience

Your primary target audience consists of:

  • Fleet managers at medium to large corporations
  • Government agency fleet administrators
  • Procurement officers responsible for fleet services
  • C-suite executives overseeing fleet operations

Key characteristics of your audience:

  • Responsible for managing vehicle fleets of 20+ vehicles
  • Focused on optimizing fleet performance and reducing operational costs
  • Interested in leveraging technology to improve fleet management
  • Decision-makers for fleet services and solutions

Set Campaign Goals

  1. Increase qualified leads by 25% over six months
  2. Improve email open rates to 25% (the industry average is 21%)
  3. Achieve click-through rates of 4% or higher (the industry average is 2.5%)
  4. Convert 10% of engaged email recipients to sales calls/demos
  5. Generate $500,000 in new fleet optimization service contracts

Build an Overall Email Campaign Strategy, Not a One-Off Email

  1. Segmentation

We will segment our email list based on the following:

  • Fleet size (50-100 vehicles, 101-500 vehicles, 500+ vehicles)
  • Industry (corporate, government, logistics, etc.)
  • Current fleet management practices
  • Specific pain points (fuel costs, maintenance, route optimization, etc.)

  1. Personalization

Emails will be personalized based on recipient data to increase relevance:

  • Recipient name and title
  • Company/organization name
  • Industry-specific content and examples
  • Pain points addressed based on segmentation

  1. Value-Driven Content

Our email content will focus on providing tangible value to recipients:

  • Industry insights and trends
  • Best practices for fleet optimization
  • Case studies demonstrating ROI
  • Actionable tips for immediate implementation

  1. Compelling Subject Lines

We’ll craft attention-grabbing subject lines to improve open rates:

  • Use power words: “Optimize,” “Boost,” “Slash Costs,” and “Maximize.”
  • Create urgency: “Limited Time,” “Act Now,” “Don’t Miss Out”
  • Ask questions: “Is Your Fleet Costing You Millions?”
  • Use numbers: “5 Ways to Cut Fleet Costs by 30%”

  1. Clear Call-to-Action (CTA)

Each email will include a prominent, action-oriented CTA:

  • “Schedule a Free Fleet Assessment”
  • “Download Our Fleet Optimization Whitepaper”
  • “Register for Our Upcoming Webinar”
  • “Start Your 30-Day Free Trial”

  1. Mobile Optimization

All emails will be designed for optimal viewing on mobile devices:

  • Responsive design
  • Large, touch-friendly buttons
  • Concise content optimized for small screens

  1. A/B Testing

We’ll continuously test and refine our emails:

  • Subject lines
  • Email copy and layout
  • CTA placement and design
  • Send times and frequency
