Recently, Shell Fleet Solutions and WEX unveiled an enhanced comprehensive solution to their Shell Card program. The new cards, Shell Card Business and Shell Card Business FlexTM, provide a host of offerings that include fuel payment flexibility, rebate and rewards programs, and discounts on vehicle maintenance. To get a better idea of the many benefits that fleets can derive by incorporating the new offerings, we spoke with Mohamad Kabbani, Head of Shell Fleet Solutions US. Here’s what he had to say:

The new Shell Card is being positioned as an all-in-one mobility solution. What makes it stand out in terms of savings for businesses?
The Shell Card is designed to help enable businesses to save in every stage of their fleet operations. But it’s also more than the way fleets save on everyday expenses. With actionable data to help control costs and improve operations, technology that provides enhanced data security, and support to fleets on their electrification journey, the Shell Card can be a key to transforming fleet management.

Shell Fleet Solutions Introduces an Upgraded All-in-One Fuel Card ProgramIt’s this mix of convenience on the road, visibility at the desk and expert guidance wherever you need it that make it a powerful all-in-one solution that can help you lower your total cost of ownership.

An area where we excel is the expert guidance that our account managers provide to large fleet customers. They set up custom reports to reveal key insights that can lead to savings. This includes recommendations and guidance on how to reduce spend, including identifying unnecessary premium fuel usage, avoiding fraud and misuse, increasing Shell volume that brings higher rebates, and taking advantage of consumer-based loyalty savings from the Fuel Rewards® program.

Could you provide some examples of the savings?
With tiered fuel rebates of up to six cents per gallon and additional rebates at participating Shell stations for Shell Card Business Flex users, we’re making it easier for businesses to reduce fuel costs. When fleet drivers enroll in the Fuel Rewards® program, they can save on Shell fuel at participating locations, whether they fill up their personal or work vehicle. Additionally, about one third of Shell locations nationwide participate in our rebate bonus program offering an extra three or five cents per gallon savings to Shell Card Business Flex users.

By integrating fuel rebates, loyalty rewards, and maintenance discounts, the Shell Card delivers real, tangible savings that can directly impact a business’s bottom line.

Security is a major concern for fleet managers. How does the Shell Card enhance payment security and prevent fraud?
Security is a critical factor in fleet management, and the Shell Card is built with multiple layers of protection to safeguard every transaction. The Wex DriverDash app enables secure, contactless payments, biometric authentication, and automatic receipt capture, reducing the risk of lost or stolen cards. This means no more lost cards or paper receipts.

Additionally, Shell Card leverages WEX’s industry-leading security and encryption, and offers strict access controls using Level III data. Level III data provides the most insights down to the transaction level that can help minimize misuse and identify fraud.

Fleet managers also have optional access to ClearViewTM data analytics, which turns complex data into actionable insights that help fleets understand trends, manage budgets, and save more. These industry-leading security measures ensure that businesses can manage their fleet expenses with confidence and peace of mind.

How does the Shell Card support the diverse fuel needs of fleet owners?
Electrification is a priority for many fleet operators, and the Shell Card is built to support fleets no matter where they are on that journey. The Shell Card can be used to pay for both traditional fuel and EV charging and is accepted at a vast network of EV charging stations including Shell Recharge, Blink, ChargePoint, and more, ensuring drivers can easily find and pay for charging on the go.

The Shell Card also offers an at-home reimbursement solution for drivers who want to charge their company vehicle at home, providing convenience for the driver and a seamless reimbursement process for the business. For mixed fleets, we streamline operations by consolidating both fuel and EV charging expenses into a single invoice and reporting system.

Through our Accelerate to Zero program, we also provide expert guidance and tailored solutions to help large businesses transition to electric vehicles efficiently, without disrupting their day-to-day operations.

Many fleet operators struggle with managing costs and improving efficiency. How does the Shell Card’s technology and data integration help businesses optimize operations?
The Shell Card isn’t just a payment tool, it’s a complete fleet management solution designed to improve efficiency and control costs.

Our online fleet management portal, Shell Account Manager Online, allows businesses to tap into spending insights, purchase controls and more, enabling data-driven decision-making. ClearViewTM data analytics, which I mentioned, provides real-time insights into spending trends, helping fleet managers identify opportunities to optimize routes, reduce fuel waste, and enhance overall efficiency.

And, again, the DriverDash app streamlines payment processes and eliminates paperwork, allowing fleet operators to focus on strategic business growth rather than administrative tasks. With these tools, the Shell Card can help businesses maximize performance while keeping costs under control.
