Embedded in President Obama’s $3.7 trillion budget plan are changes that may bolster the auto industry in Detroit and elsewhere. The proposal gives tax credits for vehicles that run on alternative fuels that are not commonly used and exceed the miles-per-gallon of gasoline equivalent by at least 25%. The credit would go up to $10,000, and would transfer to the person who sells or finances the care, rather than the purchaser.
