Drivers with severe speeding offenses often lose their licenses. But one state is considering taking a different approach by installing speed limiters in cars instead. Ideally, this will stop habitual offenders from going too fast.
A proposed law in Arizona would provide a way for people to stay on the road safely. It provides those with severe convictions with the option of having a speed-limiting device installed in their cars instead of facing a license suspension.
It will allow drivers to exceed the posted limit by 10 mph for about a minute to comply with passing laws. Drivers would have to pay between $100 – $250 to have the device installed, and it would cost about $4 per day to use.

Ford confirmed Monday that the all-electric truck has been discontinued, and while a second-generation Lightning is in the works, it will be an extended-range EV that takes gas, rather than a fully battery electric vehicle.
The new one will also be built at Ford’s Rouge Electric Vehicle Center. It wasn’t even two months ago that the company announced that it was diverting resources—both in terms of critical materials and manpower—to cranking out gas-powered F-150s instead of the Lightning.
The F-150 Lightning seemed to swing heavily in price from day one until its conclusion, and Ford is no doubt hoping that an EREV or series hybrid formula will resonate better with truck buyers.

New research from consulting company EY shows that car buyers across the globe are changing their minds on wanting EV over combustion.
According to EY’s Mobility Consumer Index, half of car buyers around the world plan to buy a combustion-powered vehicle in the next two years. The study found that electric vehicle preference has dropped 10 points to just 14%. Hybrid buyer preference has also fallen, but only slightly. Down five points to 16%.
This sentiment isn’t limited to the US, though it was highest there. Consumer intent to buy combustion over electric was up 12 points in the Americas, versus 11 points in Europe and 10 points in the Asia-Pacific region.

Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety was joined by a member of Congress, a state lawmaker, parents of children killed in motor vehicle crashes, law enforcement, and consumer and insurance leaders to release the 2026 Roadmap to Safety.
Preliminary numbers for 2024 remain historically high. Speeding, red light running, impaired driving, distractions and not buckling up are contributing to these devastating figures.
Five states (MD, NY, OR, RI, WA) and DC receive the highest rating of “green,” while nine states earn a “red” rating for lagging dangerously behind in the adoption of Advocates’ recommended laws (ID, MI, MO, MT, NE, NV, OK, SD, WY). The remaining 36 states receive a “yellow” or caution rating, indicating that improvement is needed.
