Drivers with severe speeding offenses often lose their licenses. But one state is considering taking a different approach by installing speed limiters in cars instead. Ideally, this will stop habitual offenders from going too fast.
A proposed law in Arizona would provide a way for people to stay on the road safely. It provides those with severe convictions with the option of having a speed-limiting device installed in their cars instead of facing a license suspension.
It will allow drivers to exceed the posted limit by 10 mph for about a minute to comply with passing laws. Drivers would have to pay between $100 – $250 to have the device installed, and it would cost about $4 per day to use.
