Nothing Changes if Nothing Changes

What does a Crash-Free Culture look like? eDriving says it does not happen by accident. It is built intentionally on five key elements that work together to shape behavior, build accountability, and create long-term impact.

Lisa Drake, Director of Fleet Electrification at Merchants Fleet authors a timely article for fleets that are transitioning to EVs. Lisa says, “Managing EVs is not simply about replacing diesel- or gasoline-powered trucks with electric ones; it’s about thinking differently about how energy is consumed.”

We are delighted to feature Frank Memolo in the latest Fleet Pro Focus. Frank echoes what so many of us feel about our fleet industry: “As much as we are a close-knit group, anyone new to fleet is always made to feel welcome.” Indeed!

ServiceUp, the all-in-one tech platform transforming how fleets and insurers manage vehicle repairs, has raised $55 million in Series B funding.

Founded in 2021, ServiceUp initially started by managing repairs for individual drivers with a simple model: pick up the car, get it repaired, and return it hassle-free. They quickly realized there was a bigger problem and greater opportunity so they shifted their focus.

“We’re not here to slightly improve vehicle repair management. We’re rebuilding it from the ground up,” said Brett Carlson, co-founder and CEO of ServiceUp.

Crash-Free Culture

By eDriving

Preventing crashes isn’t just about installing new technology or enforcing compliance. It’s about reshaping how your organization thinks about driving. At eDriving, we call this a Crash-Free Culture®. It’s the focus of our new white paper, “The Road to Driver Safety.”

A crash-free culture is one in which driver safety becomes a shared value, championed from the C-suite to the cab. It makes safe driving second nature — not just an obligation.

A crash-free culture doesn’t happen by accident. It’s built intentionally on five key elements that work together to shape behavior, build accountability, and create long-term impact.

By Tod Trousdell, Fleet Marketing Consultant and Partner, RobertsTrousdell Communications

For this round of Fleet Pro Focus, we chat with one of the most well-rounded folks in the biz – Frank Memolo, Senior Manager of North American Fleet at Teva Pharmaceuticals.

He’s that rare breed of fleet professional who’s worked in senior positions in both the service sector and as a fleet manager. Frank knows fleet. He’s also one of the most affable pros you’ll ever meet and is a man of few, yet specific, words when it comes to the industry.

“As technology evolves, so will the fleet industry… Data and AI will reshape how fleets are managed and it wouldn’t surprise me to see each vehicle managed individually based on data pulled from the vehicle.”

Telematics and EVs

By Lisa Drake, P.E., Director, Fleet Electrification at Merchants Fleet

The fleet industry is approaching a pivotal juncture, with electrification increasingly positioned as a potential path forward for businesses working to reduce emissions and operating costs.

As fleets venture into this complex landscape, one constant emerges: data will be essential in guiding strategic decisions and shaping the future of fleet management using advanced telematics.

Telematics capabilities are expanding to offer a more nuanced view, not only of energy consumption and vehicle deployment, but also where and how EVs are charged, and what that means for operational costs and efficiency.

Merchants Fleet is actively monitoring these trends and staying ahead of the curve and can help support fleet operators through this pivotal transition.

EVs Will Decimate Big Oil. Even Without U.S. Tax Credits.

The U.S. just handed the fossil fuel industry a big win. No matter how you look at it, that win will be short lived.

Electric vehicles are already displacing millions of barrels of oil per day, saving hundreds of millions of metric tons of carbon dioxide from entering into the atmosphere.

With or without U.S. support, the world will march on towards cleaner sources of energy.

NYC Congestion Pricing Successful – It’s Become A Political Battleground

In shocking news (that isn’t all that shocking) New York City’s controversial congestion-pricing plan has made good on all its promises.

Traffic in the so-called “Congestion Relief Zone” below 60th Street in Manhattan has been greatly reduced. Backups at bridges and tunnels are far less common. And the city is raking in millions from the $9 per vehicle toll.

In the face of making money and saving lives, Republicans and some Democrats are still fighting over whether the plan should continue.

EV Range

Geotab analysis shows that driving speed has a greater impact on EV range than summer heat, especially for larger vehicles on longer trips.

Using anonymized telematics data from over 3 million trips, Geotab has compared how temperature and speed affect energy use in light-duty EVs, including sedans and cargo vans.

“Drivers tend to worry about using the aircon in hot weather, but our data shows that your right foot can make the biggest difference, particularly at high speeds,” said Charlotte Argue, Senior Manager, Sustainability, at Geotab.
