Fleet Marketing

By Ed Pierce, Fleet Management Weekly’s Brand Acceleration

The commercial fleet scene is buzzing with change this year, and if you market products or services for fleet leaders, you’re already feeling both the pressure and the promise.

Look around the commercial fleet scene in 2025—it’s a whirlwind of tech upgrades, shifting rules, and decision-makers playing new roles.

Generally speaking, fleet managers are mainly worried about keeping things safe, nipping costs in the bud, and running operations smoothly,

Mixing an account-focused tactic with engaging content, a personal twist in messaging, and solid data use gives fleet product and service providers a real chance to connect with today’s sharp fleet leaders.

This week, Fleet Pro Focus chats with Debbie Struna, National Accounts Director at Fleet Street Remarketing.

As a past AFLA board member, just about anyone who has attended an industry conference in the last 20 years is likely familiar with her.

One thing I’ve learned is that the fleet industry is constantly evolving, but the pace of change has never been faster than it is today…Fleet professionals are being forced to adapt almost on the fly.

I highly urge everyone in this industry to seek out the support of a mentor. We have a wonderful formal Mentorship program available through AFLA’s Women in Fleet Management (WIFM).

How Much of Your Car Is Really Made in The USA?

A helpful document from the US government now offers a clear look at just how “American-made” the cars for sale in the country really are. Known as the American Automotive Labeling Act (AALA) list, this document provides details on five key aspects.

First, it reveals the percentage of a car that’s made in the US or Canada, without distinguishing between the two. Second, it specifies where the final assembly takes place. Next, it offers insight into the origins of the engine and transmission. Finally, it also details the percentage of a car that comes from other continents.

For example, one version of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 is 29% made in America, 29% made in Korea, and 33% Hungarian.

Virginia to Require Some Drivers to Install Speed Limit Devices

Virginia is poised to make history as the first state in the nation to mandate speed-limiting devices for certain drivers with a heavy foot.

Under the new legislation, judges will have the authority to require reckless drivers to install these devices in their vehicles—offering an alternative to losing their license or facing jail time.

The move follows a similar law passed in the District of Columbia last year, and with states like Maryland eyeing comparable measures, this could mark the beginning of a broader crackdown on dangerous driving across the region. The device would use GPS or the car’s traffic sign recognition system to cap speeds according to posted limits.

San Francisco’s New Speed Camera Fines Scaled by a Driver’s Income Are Fast Approaching

San Francisco activated its new network of speed cameras last Thursday to become California’s first city to use the traffic law-enforcement method. The cameras, which begin with a two-month trial serving warnings instead of fines, will distribute penalties to drivers via mail—but the notice one person receives could look significantly different from another’s.

Fines from San Francisco’s speed cameras will adjust their penalty amount on a sliding scale, with low-income residents eligible for a 50% discount. Non-discounted fines will range from $50 to $500, with single-person households earning less than $30,120 annually and incomes up to $83,920 for a family of six qualifying for the discount.

Which Car Brands Will Be Impacted Most by Trump’s 25% Auto Tariffs?

General Motors, one of the so-called Big Three automakers, along with Stellantis and Ford, is widely expected to be the most exposed to the forthcoming auto tariffs. Stellantis, whose brands include Jeep, Chrysler, Dodge and Ram, among others makes between 73%-75% of vehicles for sale in the U.S. stateside.

Ford is among the car companies better positioned to weather the tariffs as 80% of its vehicles are manufactured in the U.S.

Japanese automakers Toyota and Honda export a large number of vehicles and auto parts from Japan to the U.S., which represents a sizable market for the companies. The same goes for South Korean automakers Hyundai and Kia.
